When it became clear that massive hurricanes were going to hit Texas and Florida, the attorneys general of both states announced that they would prosecute "price gougers" to the fullest extent of the law. Many economists were outraged. Prosecuting price gouging during a disaster is bad, not because price gouging is so good, but because people are good.
