A State of Poise

Does exist an attitude, turn of the head
poised better to see, hear and respond?
A special position of lens?
Does exist a level of doubt
that should rise beyond doubt, but retain
doubt as well in a maze of questions?
Ours has become a world that fires beliefs like bullets,
shoots out at non-belief, at any question—
strafes the precious Other
and burns, devours, engorges on others’ healing doubt
at the common altar of backyard
barbecue, six-pack-scripture world
that refuses to hear the word “question.”
Somewhere in the barrage of narrative
will we sometime discover Narrative?
And will the narrative be written
in words that are not curses?
In gestures unaccompanied by deadly projectiles?
