A Place to Call Home

Although the Beast
dwells in ease and luxury
“dreaming and smoking its hookah”
in an unheeding slough of apathy
Someday the slough
will dry up and blow away
and be lost to history
like others that came before it
And the Beast
will again stir into motion
and roam the world from East to West
looking for a new den
Till it finds a country
where people are mesmerized
with remorseless and infantile inanities
and settles itself among them.
