A Grandiloquent John Stalks Capitol Hill

Practically every congressman and senator says his prayers to the AIPAC lobby.
— George Ball, US Under Secretary of State (1961-66) and UN Ambassador (1968)
You have played the harlot. . . .You have loved harlots’ earnings.
— Hosea 9:1 (New American Standard Bible)
*****
A pandering speech—dark and apocalyptic–in his hand,
words carefully chosen, phrases meticulously planned,
Binyamin Netanyahu came swaggering into town
and a sycophantic Congress began to jump up and down,
bought and paid for marionettes dancing on a string,
standing in a long line to shake his hand and kiss his ring,
cloying, drooling, hanging breathlessly on every word,
regarding as sheer brilliance everything they heard,
clapping, leaping up, cheering wildly right on cue
every time the AIPAC furnished script told them to.
Israel Lobby campaign contributions ever in mind,
what other than sagacity can well paid hirelings find?
That Iran is “dark” and “evil” everyone agreed.
Evidence of such villainy? For that there seemed no need:
nuke-armed Israel is affable; nuke-free Iran is hateful.
For US made weapons of mass destruction “Israel is grateful.”
George Washington, so it would seem, got it all wrong.
Israel’s entangling US alliance is “remarkable” and strong.
At least forty standing ovations for the magniloquent fellow,
accolades from high priced harlots in the Capitol Hill bordello.
