NATO’s largest Cyber Defence Exercise Concludes
NATO’s largest annual Cyber Defence exercise concluded today in Tartu, Estonia. Exercise “Cyber Coalition 2014″ (CC14) included participants from 26 NATO member nations as well as five Partnership for Peace (PfP) nations.
As the exercise was being held in Estonia, this year’s event was NATO’s first official use of the Estonian Defence Force’s Cyber Range since the Wales Summit. There, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) and the Estonian Minister of Defence signed a Memorandum of Understanding which formalised NATO’s use of the Estonian capability.
While this was a cyber-defence exercise, the exercise objectives went far beyond items such as malware analysis and other strictly technical challenges.
The specific objectives for this year’s exercise were to hold decision-making and exercise coordination between NATO entities and national cyber defence capabilities, also in PfP nations, information sharing, and to challenge collective technical capabilities…
In response to the recognised need to garner increased industry involvement in NATO Cyber Defence measures, the exercise was opened up to representatives form industry, academia, and scientific institutes as observers.
