A secret recording of one of Sen. McConnell’s campaign meetings suggests Sen. McConnell may have illegally used his official staff and resources to conduct campaign activities.
The recording indicated Sen. McConnell’s then-chief of staff and several legislative assistants helped compile opposition research on some of the senator’s potential campaign opponents while on the taxpayer’s clock. CREW asked the FBI and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics to investigate whether Sen. Only days before the election, another big story of illegal drug operations has hit persons close to a candidate for high office. Recently, Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber has had to fend off revelations that his wife was part of or the leader in an effort to run an illegal marijuana grow operation. Now, Mitch McConnell’s father-in-law, James Chao, who is the father of McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, has had cocaine discovered on a boat owned by his company worth an estimated $6.7 million dollars.
A routine inspection found the huge illegal cocaine shipment hidden among what was supposed to be a routine coal shipment for the ship Ping May in Santa Marta, Columbia. The Foremost Company has been the main source of McConnell family fortune for the years since Mitch McConnell’s marriage to Elaine Chao, now raising questions whether McConnell’s personal family spent on political campaigns might have been partially funded by criminal transactions such as major cocaine trade. Only days before the election this raises serious new questions for the McConnell family about the source of money used to fund their political aspirations.
I’ve talked about this issue many, many times. These Capitalists love the same sex ballots, some stupid GMO labeling initiatives (did not pass in Colorado or Oregon but did in Hawaii) instead of going after them en toto. You know, banning fracking makes more sense, like many cities passed this last 2/3 Nobody Voted Election cycles, rather than ALLOWING germ-creating, allergy-generating, water-polluting, brain-seizing, energy-draining, soil-killing, patent-proofing GMOs in the unborn children’s food, almost ALL food now at the German-owned or British-owned supermarkets of the USA.
Liberals create war, and they are infants, and symphony loving creeps. They go to Cats and think life is cultural. A new African-American Annie, and these demon-crats think life is end of Jim Crow. I am sure some of DV’s readers might tear up and under-think the counter-intuitive rationale for NOT taking guns away from citizens. State ballot issues
• Initiative 1351, Class size reduction measure – Vote YES
The FSP is happy to be able to support an initiative that addresses overcrowded classrooms and inequality in our public schools without piling more regressive taxes onto the working poor. Championed by teachers, I-1351 mandates class-size reductions and staffing increases for all schools but especially so in the communities hardest hit by the decades-long economic decline. However, the Washington legislature has a poor record when it comes to enacting education reforms and funding. So education activists should keep a close eye on the process and be prepared to act if lawmakers refuse to provide the funds needed to enact this measure or steal money from other social services to pay for it – instead of taxing big business.
• Initiative 591, Gun rights measure – Vote YES
Text of initiative: “This measure would prohibit government agencies from confiscating guns or other firearms from citizens without due process, or from requiring background checks on firearm recipients unless a uniform national standard is required.”
The FSP urges a yes vote, because, like socialists historically, we strongly support the working class’s right to defend itself, with arms if necessary. Despite the fact that this initiative has support among right-wing groups with whom we completely disagree on other issues, we support this initiative for our own reasons. Gun laws in this country were first enacted in order to keep newly freed African Americans in the South from having legal access to firearms and U.S. gun control has generally had as its targets the poor and oppressed. Today, Florida is a case study in the double standard, with a “stand your ground” law protecting paranoid racists, but Black mother Marissa Alexander sentenced to 20 years for firing into the ceiling to stop her abusive husband. History shows that restrictions on gun ownership have been used repeatedly to target striking workers, civil rights organizers and radicals – not racist militias or Pinkertons. In this time of a growing police and surveillance state, stopping the Army from offloading military-grade arms and equipment to local police is the gun control we really need. Just ask the young people of Ferguson, Missouri.
• Initiative 594, universal background checks for gun purchases – Vote NO
This initiative further restricts gun ownership, extends the already flawed background check system and makes it illegal to loan a gun to a friend. The current background check system ends up being discriminatory because the racist and phony “war on drugs” has unfairly branded legions of poor people, especially Blacks, as “felons” who no longer have the right to bear arms – or vote, or get approved for apartment leases or jobs. What we would support is universal training in how to use and store guns safely.
We understand that some people will be swayed to support this initiative because they hope it will reduce the growing violence in our society, but this initiative does nothing to address its causes. The real problem is a culture – and practice – of militarism that this country’s leaders promote, while at the same time shredding the social safety net.

Did you hear about the 800 esteemed scientists who came together and demanded the production of genetically modified crops and products be stopped? Scientists who called on world powers to re-evaluate the future of agriculture and seek sustainability rather than corporate profits? Don’t be surprised if you haven’t, as the mainstream media won’t touch this one.
Eight-hundred scientists did make such a demand. They made it first over a decade ago and they have updated it over the years, adding signatures and release dates. Still global powers have all but ignored their calls.
The Institute of Science in Society is a non-profit group of scientists from around the world, dedicated to bringing an end to what they refer to as the “dangerous GMO “experiment. In their open letter to the world, they have highlighted why governments need to stop genetically modified crops now – before there are irreversible effects on the health of the people and the health of the earth at large.
The Open Letter from World Scientists to All Governments calls for “the immediate suspension of all environmental releases of GM crops and products, both commercially and in open field trials, for at least 5 years.”
They also want patents on organisms, cell lines, and living things revoked and banned. Such patents (a sort of corporate version of “playing God,”) “threaten food security, sanction biopiracy of indigenous knowledge and genetic resources, violate basic human rights and dignity, compromise healthcare, impede medical and scientific research and are against the welfare of animals.”
And as Anthony Gucciardi recently detailed on NaturalSociety, this would be bad news for Monsanto following the recent Supreme Court decision that they have the ‘right’ to patent life.Scientists Speaking Out
In the beginning, after its first draft in 1999, the letter had just over 300 signatures. Since then, it’s grown significantly. At the writing of this article, the document has 828 signatures representing 84 different countries.
While we are told by Monsanto and the FDA that GMOs are nothing to worry about and instead safe tools for the future of agriculture, a growing number of esteemed scientists seem to disagree. So, who’s listening?
The letter has been presented to numerous governments and organizations, including the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development, the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity, the World Trade Organization, and yes, even the U.S. Congress. The letter has been shared at these venues, but it doesn’t seem like anyone was listening.
The populous has to dig for information like this. We have to seek out the news sources willing to cover it, because we won’t hear about this letter on the nightly news or through a governmental agency. No, the U.S. government wants you to fear what they want you to fear (“terror” and crime, for instance), but they certainly don’t want you to fear the information and the food they are putting on your table. Or the GMOs they are funding with your taxpayer dime.
So, we are left in the Walmartization of Pot in WA state. Tax-tax-tax. We are a death star society, and that toxin is floating into the ether as we sweat in our foreclosed-upon rentals. Can’t wait for more punditry from the elites and east coast USA liberals!
