Latvia: NATO Holds Yet Another Military Exercise In Baltics

Multinational Exercise Red Knight 14, Soldiers to Improve Military Planning
Exercise ‘Red Knight 14’, a military operations planning exercise, is taking place in Riga, Latvia. The exercise commenced Monday 03 November under the leadership of Commander Danish Division, Major General Michael Lollesgaard and is supported by a Joint Force Command Brunssum Training Team, headed by Colonel Michael Uhrig; it will take place until Thursday 06 November.
The aim of “Red Knight 14” is to train brigade level staff personnel in individual, special and collective level, as well as to improve the skills of the headquarters and personnel in planning and conducting operations.
The three Baltic States and Denmark participate in the exercise. The Training Audience comprises brigade staffs from the 1st Estonian Infantry Brigade, 1st Latvian Landforces Brigade, the Lithuanian Iron Wolves Brigade, and 1st the and 2nd Danish Brigades. During the exercise each unit will develop the operational plan and coordinate it with other units according to the NATO military planning and decision making process as well as standard operating procedures.
JFC Brunssum’s engagement is part of a concerted NATO effort to increase cooperation and operational information sharing among Allied nations. This increased awareness and information sharing will enhance Alliance integration, interoperability and overall responsiveness to the challenges posed by the Ukraine crisis and the ever-changing security environment.
