Conflict in Shakhtarsk switches to protracted phase – NSDC
Clashes in Shakhtarsk, Donetsk region, have switched to a protracted phase, since the town is a key point that will give the opportunity to separate Donetsk and Luhansk, National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) information and analytical centre spokesman Andriy Lysenko said this at a briefing on Friday.
“According to the latest information, ten servicemen were really killed in the battle, and 13 were injured. It’s unclear where 11 more people are, because the conflict there has switched to a protracted phase. Due to this, we still cannot receive data for the last 24 hours on those killed and wounded,” he said.
Lysenko said that a column of paratroopers in Shakhtarsk had been ambushed, because militants are struggling to prevent Ukrainian military from entering the town.
