Resurgam

Dr. Thompkinson sat at his highly polished oak
and emerald leather studded library desk
reading a hand written note
from the Patient in Room 23
of the Secure Ward at Block Six.
‘From the dirty gutter of a fractured mind,
up out of the ashes of a childhood digging graves,
escaping the derelict dockside of a vinegar-pumping heart…
I shall riSE UP and take back dominion of my soul.
Untwist my fate, unfearful of consequences or surprizes…
for I have sunk as low as spirits go, and then some.
Slept in snaking torment to awake screaming into nightmares.
From vulnerable, fragile and lost…
I have found myself at last,
cowering within a darkened corner
and forgiven the weeping, shaking innocent there.
Forging an armour out of truth and common-sense,
I have but one goal…
the straightest path to happiness and contentment.
The gossiping tongues and judgmental, pointing fingers
will not hinder nor stop me now…
for, at last, I see the barbarity of their cowardly ways.
I am ready to begin again, properly this time,
and to feel the glorious Spring Rain upon my weary face.
The ‘Secret To Life’ is love and laughter,
and only reciprocal is The Holy Grail’
The Doctor sighed respectfully
whilst scribbling with red ink in the margin,
‘I believe it is time to escort the Patient
up from The Hole and back out into the waiting Sunshine.
