-by EmorejFollowing are two or three mind-reading attempts:
A. Lincoln Project people, by targeting Senate races, are doing one or both of the following:
1. Showing off their skills to audition for top roles in the post-Trump Democratic-branded unified centrist establishment party, and/or 2. Implementing their half of some existing deal with Biden’s top backers (of which the biggest potential win-win deal would be Biden putting Condi onto a bi-partisan anti-Trump ticket).
B. It would be rational for Biden’s top strategists to think along the following lines:
1. If Condi were selected, the best lead-up to it would be to first actively float Susan Rice alongside Kamala as the two finalists, so that critics, of Susan’s lack of prior public face/voice exposure, would have exhausted much of this line of criticism, thereby neutralizing criticism of Condi’s lack of prior campaigning experience (which, anyway, is a two-edged sword, because “not a politician” always has appeal).2. Selecting Condi would neatly fit into and cap off the DNC’s ongoing series of actions and messages demonstrating maximum welcome for former Republicans and maximum disrespect for Bernie supporters’ policy concerns, and would be consistent with a strategy of:• planning for four (at least) years of using many more sticks than carrots to deal with the economic-cum-political consequences of the 90%’s economic and healthcare distress; • provoking pre-election protesters in Portland, etc. to expand in numbers, vigor and breadth of anti-establishment message, and• provoking Trump to initiate martial law against them.3. Martial law, declared by Trump, would:
• enable the Pentagon to tell Trump “we can’t risk an October-surprise shooting war with Iran, N.Korea or especially China while we’re deploying domestically”; • enable the Pentagon, under cover of rhetoric & reality that “it was Trump who already deployed our troops domestically against Lefties & Minorities,” to then broaden those troops’ mission to prevent Trump supporting militias and armed lone wolves from violently resisting the John Roberts-finalized Electoral College vote against a second Trump term; and * enable the next President to take credit for (even gradual/partial) relaxation of martial law-- which would distract from the little-or-no relaxation of the high-tech Panopticon originally justified by the Pandemic.
C. Until now, Biden has benefited by letting Trump remain the center of attention and letting the Veep short-liist get old and boring, but now:
1. Biden can't delay Veep choice much longer, and2. The Ghislaine Maxwell news (notably the mention of Bill Clinton) is attracting attention to some of the grossest aspects of pre-Trump establishment corruption, so3. Great time for Biden to make news, of which the best kind for him would be 'exceeding expectations for decisiveness with, and surprising everybody after long keeping tight lipped about, ultimate act of bi-partisanship, which also amounts to an escape from predictability in general, and more specifically from the short-list that everybody thought he had been boxed into committing to,4. Of course the Condi selection works best if followed (about 72 hours later) by an endorsement from G.W. Bush, and then a day or so later by Mitt Romney, etc.
