One Foot in Front of the Other

What can you do when the Tyrant-in-Chief
is the epitome of
a silver-tongued devil
that will lie to your face one minute
and then laugh behind your back the next?
What can you do when the mind-numbed masses
are like sheep led to the slaughter
who love getting fleeced
because living in the lap of ignorance’s luxury
is easier to stomach than swallowing the pill of stone cold truth?
What can you do when the idol-worshipping public
prostrates themselves at a false altar
and sips from a chalice of chaos
that runneth over with the wages of their country’s war sacrifice
while they clamor and cheer for more blood to satiate the unquenchable lust?
What can you do on the first day of Autumn
when the red leaves start falling
down to the pavement
to cover a trail of tears
and then burrow underneath the injustices of a bankrupted past?
What can you do when the printing press has run amok
and the fiat dept gets piled on high
at the peak of a pyramid scam
orchestrated upon the backs of a slave class without a whip
with which to chase the thieves and hypocrites from the temple this time?
What can you do when the water and air has been poisoned
and your dry lips are as parched
as the black lungs within your chest
that gasp for one final breath
before the ominious cloud of smog completely inherits the Earth?
What can you do when you’ve searched the whole world
looking for rhyme and a reason
but one day you happen to glance
and catch a glimpse in the mirror
only to find
that the answer the whole time
was found in the eyes
staring right back with the truth
which reveals that the problem and the solution
are both embedded deep in the soul that defines you?
What you can do
is what you must do
and what you shall do
with this very day
and every day forth
until the work is complete
and your soul can lay down to sleep.
