It may well be
we are helpless before the power
in our own hands
and our savagery in wielding it
But that doesn’t mean
we have to be moral imbeciles
and pretend our crimes
are smiled upon by God in heaven
It may well be
our wars of good against evil
and of freedom versus tyranny
are only deeds of imperial aggression
But that doesn’t mean
we cannot confess our sins
Who knows? It might turn us
into human beings.
