Rasmussen accuses Russia of provoking conflicts since the collapse of communism
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen accuses Russia of provoking conflicts in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Rasmussen talked about the Russia`s policy towards the post-Soviet nations since the collapse of communism and the efforts of the Alliance to have normal relations with this country.
`Ever since the collapse of communism, NATO has made efforts to engage with Moscow, offering more co-operation on more issues than to any other non-NATO country, and striving towards a strategic partnership. Russia`s response has been to tear up the rule book, stir up conflict in Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, and challenge the rules-based international order,` Rasmussen told the Financial Times.
In his another interview with a French newspaper, Rasmussen also reviewed the upcoming summit of the NATO in Wales. The Secretary General says it will be a decisive year aimed at changing the world. He says the NATO influence will increase and the Alliance will timely respond to any challenge.
