Recently, there has been a frightening trend of people labeling words as violent and then arguing that "violent words" call for a violent physical retaliation. This is dangerous ground. When our understanding of what constitutes violence contorted in this way, it becomes possible to unironically argue that the answer to speech you don’t like is hurting people.
