Empire, Power & People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 124

Accounting for Complexity

This week’s rant begins with addressing some comments on the page for last week’s podcast episode, discussing Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS, with the main focus being on the process and approach to research, with the mantra and question (for every subject): how do we account for complexity? Whether trying to understand your personal daily life and the interactions and institutions you are involved in, or trying to address and understand far-off places, events, organizations, with significant reach and power, all ultimately involve human beings and human relations, and therefore, inevitably involve a great deal of complexity and confusion. This makes definitive positions very hard to take (or profess), but can perhaps at least help us to find a path to something more closely resembling reality.
