Monday, we looked at the tiny handful of homophobic Democrats-- like Blue Dogs John Barrow (GA), Dan Lipinski (IL) and Collin Peterson (MN)-- left in Congress. Most homophobes-- and haters and bigots of all persuasions-- know which party to gravitate to these days: the GOP. Reactionaries like Barrow, Lipinski and Peterson may be against equality for the LGBT community-- ior lacking in the courage to stand up for it-- but at least they're not advocating stoning gays to death. Meet Oklahoma teabagger Scott Esk. This may not be your father's Republican Party, but it is today's Republican Party.Esk's crowded primary is June 24 for a red seat encompassing South Oklahoma City that is being vacated by Mike Reynolds. Esk is filled with primitive crackpot ideas about divorce, society's right to regulate businesses, nullification of federal laws, guns and Choice. His statement: "I am totally against abortion, and consider it murder of an innocent human being. I am for nullifying the infamous Roe v Wade decision, and examining Oklahoma law to make sure it is 100% pro life, and leading in the movement to punish abortionists severely for their committing of murder." If he lived in Virginia he could have run against Eric Cantor. But even in Oklahoma, perhaps the most backward and politically primitive state in the Union, the media isn't comfortable with Esk's ranting about stoning gays. KFOR News reports that "some are saying his views are extreme." Moore Monthly editor Rob Morris: "This guy posted on Facebook that homosexuals should be stoned to death. My first response was you’re nuts, nobody would be stupid enough to do that."
Esk posted some old testament scripture that referred to homosexuality being punished.Someone asked-- “So just to be clear, you think we should execute homosexuals (presumably by stoning)?”Esk responds-- “I think we would be totally in the right to do it. That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.”Morris spoke with Esk by phone and asked him about the statement.Esk said, “What I will tell you right now is that was done in the old testament under a law that came directly from God. And in that time, it was totally just, it came directly from God. I have no plans to, you know, reinstitute that in Oklahoma law. I do have some very huge moral misgivings about those kinds of sins.”Morris said, “Even people that don’t agree with things like gay marriage, they, nobody wants the death penalty for gays. I mean that’s the most asinine thing.”Morris says he feels voters need to know about Esk’s extreme views before casting their vote.
The district Esk is running in is part of the 5th congressional district, where Blue America-backed progressive Democrat, Tom Guild, is running for the open seat. He was as revolted by Esk's incendiary statements as most people were and said flatly that "Esk is regrettably dead wrong. He seems to be in a century long ago and far away. What he said is ignorant, dangerous, hurtful and ridiculous. One wonders if this libertarian was under the influence of something when he made his statements. Earth to Esk… Everyone is the same in the good Lord’s sight. Everyone is entitled to due process and equal protection and the pursuit of happiness. The old saying sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me… is dead wrong. Words can hurt just as much as fists or stabbing and cutting instruments. Stop the hate. Who the hell do you think you are anyway?”Before Tom can take on whichever Esk-like garbage the GOP pukes up as their nominee, he has to face off with a conservative Democrat, Al McAffrey, on June 24. If you'd like to give him a hand, you can contribute here.Of course not every psychopathic religious bigot and satanist is in Oklahoma. This lunatic, John MacArthur, is from Los Angeles. He sounds like this primitive Amish show I stumbled upon the other day by pressing the wrong buttons on the channel changer. All the talk about is shunning people and instilling hatred of humanity-- a kind of sick and perverted Christianity without Jesus' message of love:
