(ANTIMEDIA) Just about all of us have a politician we hate. It might be Donald Trump, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, or anyone else who has tied themselves to the Washington D.C. machine. People’s views are increasingly polarized, and this divisiveness is almost tangible — a scroll through almost any Facebook feed yields rants from women’s marchers and gun enthusiasts. Some Americans have found numerous creative ways to voice their disagreement — ”Periods for Pence” was one of the most creative.
And now another company is seeking to help people voice their anger with the political establishment. A company calling itself “Protest Teas” is giving us the opportunity to “teabag a politician,” and we’ve got to admit, boyish, dick-joke humor never felt so politically edgy.
Their website lets you write a little note to your least favorite elected official, and for $10 (20% goes to charity), they deliver your civil disobedience to the office of your chosen target. They’ve got nonprofits that cater to people on both sides of the aisle, including the Wounded Warrior Project, the Testicular Cancer Society, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU.
One of the people behind the project told Anti-Media they’ve already raised just under a thousand dollars for charities. He also mentioned that, as of yet, no Democrats have been “teabagged,” but that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan have each been popular targets.
Most of the “teabagging” has been done by women. Here are a few of the messages the company has seen so far:
“I have stopped eating cheetos because they remind me of you. Thanks, Trump.“
To McConnell: “I can see why you felt compelled to silence Elizabeth Warren. After all, you do hail from racism central, and the arcane rules you employed are a classic way to dodge yours and Session’s racist roots. Still, you didn’t do yourself any favors.”
While they see their mission as loosely aligned with the Boston Tea Party, the group is trying to add an air of satire to the notion of resistance. And instead of the late night hosts who lean almost exclusively to the left, they don’t want to play favorites.
The company told us that while they’re happy to “teabag” Democratic officials — even the untouchable Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren — they simply haven’t received any requests so far. However, they have received plenty of nasty emails from conservatives calling them “college snowflakes,” “a fake tea party,” and “a liberal conspiracy.”
