Chipotle Removes GMOs from Food in Unprecedented Move

Marking the first such announcement by one of the nation’s largest restaurant chains, Chipotle Mexican Grill has stated that it has successfully phased out GMOs from its food. This is a move that will undoubtedly continue to push Chipotle into higher profits as many fast food chains continue to lose profits.
It truly has been an amazing past few months when it comes to the fight against Monsanto’s GMOs and other food infiltrators that have continually monopolized our food supply over the past several years. From Vermont’s passing of mandatory GMO labeling to international health agencies confirming the cancer-causing effects of Monsanto’s number one selling herbicide RoundUp, societal shifts are clearly coming.
Chipotle, it seems, understands that they will soon face the same fate as profit-bleeding companies like McDonald’s if they do not act quickly to remove GMOs. As founder and co-chief executive of Chipotle Steve Ells explains:

“This is another step toward the visions we have of changing the way people think about and eat fast food.. just because food is served fast doesn’t mean it has to be made with cheap raw ingredients, highly processed with preservatives and fillers and stabilizers and artificial colors and flavors.”

As I’ve been writing for quite some time, we will be seeing many more corporations begin to shed artificial additives and GMOs from their menus as more and more consumers continue to discover what they’re putting in their mouths. Writing just days ago in the April 27th piece entitled ‘McDonald’s to Close 700 Stores Amid Falling Sales‘, I expressed this concern:

“The only hope for McDonald’s is to convince their current and future customers that they are, in fact, ‘going natural.’ And with the announcement of procuring (partially) antibiotic-free chicken ‘sometime’ in the future for their chicken-based products, we see this trend beginning. The real question, however, is this: who will buy their new narrative after years of neglecting our concerns?”

As millions more to continue to spread the word on the subject of Monsanto, GMOs, RoundUp, and toxic ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup, we will continue to see action from these companies.
The New York Times reports:

“Grocers, too, are moving to offer consumers more products free of genetically altered ingredients. The shelves and cases in Whole Foods stores are to be free of products containing such ingredients by 2018, and Walmart is vastly expanding its selection of organic foods, which are free of genetic alteration by law.
Even big food companies are moving to take genetically modified ingredients, or G.M.O.s, out of their products or to label products so that consumers know which are free of them.
Whether other major restaurant chains will follow Chipotle’s lead is uncertain. The increased demand for such products has made them more expensive and difficult to obtain in the amounts that big businesses need.”
