Building Blocks

I stand tall
when children pour me and my comrades
on the floor
then they begin to stack us
one and two and three upon another
upward
to the right
to the left
Our ancestors can be found in China
some are wailing in the Middle East
some were removed from Berlin
Generations of us are pock marked by bullets
some are gently intertwined with our cousin barbed wire
A garden wall can be beautiful
a ball hit over the left field wall
a delight
Walls of separation can build a nation
Separation walls can weaken a nation
“indivisible
with liberty and justice for all”
