Never mind that Clinton-- literally wondering if her rival might get assassinated-- stayed in the 2008 primary 'til the bitter end, hoping for a miracle that would hand her, not Obama, the nomination. Now her camp is growing increasingly hysterical and over-the-top about Bernie's determination to stay 'til the end. The chances of her being unable to run for some non-electoral reason are certainly more likely-- see FBI-- than was the chance of Obama being assassinated.
Hillary Clinton today cited the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign to explain why she was remaining in the race despite long odds."We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," Clinton told the editorial board of a South Dakota newspaper. "I don't understand it," Clinton added, alluding to the calls for her to quit.
The DC Democratic Establishment, led by crooked career politicians like Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein and Harry Reid are poisoning the well for Bernie and creating faux outrage among distraught low-info Clinton supporters. Writing for The Hill yesterday, Amie Parnes claimed her top aides are seething, fearing that Bernie is "further alienating his supporters from Clinton," apparently totally unaware that the alienation from Clinton is coming because of how their camp is stealing elections and smearing Bernie through their surrogates. They're not going to vote for Trump, but there is a growing number who are not going to vote for Hillary. Many will probably stay home. Others may vote for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate. This week Brad Friedman interviewed Stein on his radio show.
In our wide-ranging conversation, Stein offers her case for why voters in both CA and around the country should vote Green this year, explains what she sees as the problem with the Democratic Party (as well as the Republican and Libertarian Parties), offers details on her recent invitation to Bernie Sanders to join forces, given what she describes as a "smear campaign" being run against him by the DNC, and responds to questions about being a "spoiler" in both the CA primary, as well as the November General Election."The guys running the show in the Democratic Party are basically the funders-- and that's predatory banks, fossil fuel giants, war profiteers, and insurance companies," Stein tells me. "With the Democratic Party you see basically a 'fake left-go right' situation, where they allow principled, inspired campaigns to stand up and be seen, but they sabotage them when push comes to shove. That, unfortunately, is what we see go on right now with the Sanders campaign, which is making a valiant effort here to do the right thing and change the party."Alluding to the moment when media used a rallying cry from 2004 Democratic Presidential candidate Howard Dean in order to undermine his campaign, Stein charges a similar "smear campaign" is now being run against Sanders by the Democratic establishment in the wake of last weekend's raucus Nevada state Democratic Convention in Las Vegas. "I think what we're seeing now is the Dean Scream of 2016," she says. "This is the sabotage of the Sanders' campaign, being conducted by the Democrats."
Clinton allies continue accusing Bernie of "burning down the house" because he refuses to buckle under to a candidate whose entire political career is a prime example of everything he and his political revolution opposes. Making it doubly unbearable for the Clinton Machine is that every poll for the last year has shown Bernie beating Trump by substantial margins, while Hillary sometimes beats him by a few points and sometimes loses to him by a few points. This is a bad year to be the candidate of the status quo, which is all she is-- if not the candidate of the status quo ante. Reading yesterday's poll from CBS News and the New York Times, one comes away with one impression: voters don't like Trump and they don't like Hillary.
Mr. Trump’s and Mrs. Clinton’s soaring levels of unpopularity are extraordinary for the likely nominees of the two major parties. Nearly two-thirds of voters, for example, say that Mr. Trump is not honest and trustworthy. Just as many say the same of Mrs. Clinton. Strong majorities of voters say the candidates do not share their values....If the election were held now, 47 percent of registered voters would support Mrs. Clinton, versus 41 percent for Mr. Trump... In a more hypothetical matchup, Mr. Sanders leads Mr. Trump, 51 percent to 38 percent....Clinton is still contending with resistance to her candidacy from supporters of Mr. Sanders as their contest carries on and grows more contentious. Twenty-eight percent of Mr. Sanders’s primary voters say they will not support her if she is the nominee, a figure that reflects the continuing anger many Sanders supporters feel toward both Mrs. Clinton and a process they believe is unfair.“I don’t support her mostly because I don’t trust her,” said Will Lambert, 32, an engineer in Denver who supports Mr. Sanders. “If she became the nominee, I might vote for a third-party candidate, like the Green Party, or I might do a write-in for Bernie. I’m still not 100 percent decided, because I don’t necessarily want to see Trump elected, either. It’s a slim possibility that I might vote for Hillary, but then, I’m at a point in my life where I just don’t want to vote for the lesser of two evils.”
