Imagine my surprise when I encountered a new “local” food product in my neighborhood grocery store, a single-serving chocolate cream pie topped with coconut shavings. How fantastic! My neighbors in western Washington must now be setting up cocoa bean farms and planting palm trees, I thought. Well, no, actually not much about this product is local at all.
