Washington’s and Kiev’s Nazi Sympathizers: Is There a Lesser Evil

It has recently been reported that the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly approved a draft resolution directed against the glorification of Nazism and racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance. The resolution expresses concern about the fact that in a number of countries, famed Nazi movement leaders and former members of the SS are honored, and monuments to fighters against fascism are demolished or subjected to desecration. The document calls on states to pass legislation prohibiting the denial of crimes against humanity and war crimes during the Second World War.
One may notice that a total of 131 countries supported this resolution draft, while 48 states, including UN Member States have abstained. The United States was one of three countries to vote against this UN resolution, while Ukraine and Palau were the other no votes.
The US and Ukraine have been repeatedly voting against all sorts of UN resolutions against the glorification of Nazism, which would protect monuments raised to honor those who gave their lives in a bid to fight Nazism. Even though UN member states have been trying to take measures to prevent the denial of despicable war crimes committed during the Second World War, all of their attempts have failed. All of the drafts express the international community’s deep concern about the glorification of any form of fascism, particularly that which is now taking hold in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine.
Ukraine fell victim to a Western-backed coup that resulted in fascist forces taking power in the country. It also resulted in the enforced worship of Ukrainian Third Reich collaborators, including the construction of monuments to them and streets and public places now being named after them. Therefore, it’s not surprising that such a government would vote against the above mentioned UN resolution.
As for the ruling elite of the United States, they are acting under the guise of various diplomatic excuses, without directly admitting their “warm” attitude towards all sorts of fascism, past and present. However, one could easily clarify the position of the United States, if one is to take a look at a string of publications in various international media.
Back in 2010, the French journal L’Express would republish a report of the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) that was officially declassified. According to this report, the US government was working closely with a total of 1,000 former Third Reich officials. The New York Times would only publish a short excerpt from this 600 page report.
The New York Times would state that the report’s most damning disclosures come in assessing the Central Intelligence Agency’s involvement with Nazi émigrés, since it goes further that any previous paper in documenting the level of American complicity and deception in such operations. It’s clear that the FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover and CIA’s Allen W. Dulles were determined to collaborate with the most despicable criminals in modern human history in a bid to put an end to the spread of communism across the world.
But have we learnt everything we could about the connections the US government had with Nazi criminals? In his interview with Le Figaro, Professor Norman Goda from University of Florida would state that there’s still a lot of classified documents left regarding this topic, therefore we would never learn the full truth of the exact number of former fascist collaborators and criminals that were working for the CIA.
It’s curious that WWII ended seven decades ago, yet a certain amount of documents are still being kept secret from the public, since it’s believed that those can still contain “sensitive information”. Maybe because the Cold War never really ended and Washington is still interested in collaborating with all sorts of Nazis, and that’swhy it prefers to keep the information about its actual involvement with Nazis and Nazism a secret. At times when neo-Nazis in Europe can be used to stir controversy and destabilization, when an openly fascist pro-Western government is still holding power in Kiev, it would be rather uncomfortable for Washington to end up with an anti-Nazi UN resolution on its hands.
