The mayhem of that terrible night, depicted so vividly in HBO's Watchmen, was nearly finished when Dr. Andrew Jackson, a 40 year-old physician, emerged from his smoldering home with hands in the air. “That’s Dr. Jackson! Don’t shoot him!” shouted one of several young whites who were still roaming the streets. It didn’t matter.
