Russian General Staff does not rule out West military operation against Assad regime in Syria
MOSCOW: The chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, has said he does not rule out that the West could follow a “military scenario” in Syria.
“One cannot rule out a military operation against the regime of [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad,” Gerasimov said at the International Security Conference in Moscow on Friday.
A pretext for military intervention could become the alleged “need to protect the civilian population of Syria and ensure the security of foreign citizens,” he added.
