Human beings cannot live successful lives by acting on the impulse of the moment. We need objective standards to guide our actions. Moralists today are trying to counter the decline of moral standards in our society by urging a return to stricter rules of conduct, especially in matters of marriage, sex, and family. But strictness is not objectivity; it is merely confining.
