“U.N. School Struck on July 30″
An Aug 4 NY Times piece–while with many flaws–actually reported that there was no legitimate reason for the Zionists to have bombed a Jabailya UN school in which Palestinian internally-displaced were attempting to shelter.
The headline, intentionally vague and downplayed (“Questions of Weapons and Warnings in Past Barrage on a Gaza Shelter”) should have been something like: “No Weapons in UN School Sheltering Palestinian Refugees–Many Refugees From 1948 Ethnic Cleansing–Bombed by Genocidal Racists, Killing At Least 21 Palestinian Civilians”
Okay, that’s a bit long, but the point being eliminate “questions” and “warnings” and “past barrage”…what the hell is that? At least the feeble puppet Ban Ki Moon uttered “reprehensible” and “a moral outrage and a criminal act” and “This madness must stop…” (and then continued to do nothing, as is the purpose of the UN).
Not one of the 7 photos posted in the NY T piece shows any Palestinian loss of life, any of the mutilated, murdered. You can bet that were this an “Israeli” school those images would be present, front page, for days, if not more. It has nothing to do with censoring graphic images and EVERYTHING to do with censoring the truth of what Palestinians are enduring.
So here are the glimpses of truth the article does provide, verbally at least…:
“The Jabaliya strike has already opened Israel to a new level of global scrutiny. International criticism ratcheted up another notch on Sunday after a missile the Israelis say was meant for three militants on a motorcycle also killed people waiting in line for food outside a United Nations school in Rafah that had been turned into a shelter.
Though Israeli military leaders have declared definitively that no United Nations facility was targeted, Rafah was the sixth shelter struck during the operation. Such strikes have renewed sharp questions about the tactics Israel uses in dense neighborhoods and, especially, near shelters that are supposed to provide refuge to people who follow Israel’s own orders to leave areas of fierce fighting.”
But, as per corp media norm, they use “militants” instead of “resistance” (which they have the legal right to do. RESIST), “war” instead of “massacre, genocide, extermination” (the latter favoured in “Israeli” parlance).
A few more quotes from the article that verges on slightly telling the truth… but is still riddled intentionally misleading phrases like “The continuing war makes it impossible to determine exactly what happened that morning in Jabaliya” and “The Israeli general who heads a committee charged with investigating the civilian impact of ground operations” (as IF the Zionists are going to investigate; their stated intent is EXTERMINATION=GENOCIDE)

…Artillery is a “statistics weapon,” not a “precision weapon,” experts said, generally fired from up to 25 miles away and considered effective if it hits within 50 yards of its target.
“Heavy artillery shelling into a populated area would be inherently indiscriminate…You just can’t aim that weapon precisely enough in that environment because it’s so destructive.”

While news-scouring, came across this Mondoweiss criticism of the same article, and was going to share it here. But they took the HRW and co approach of saying “Not that one should support Hamas rocket fire”…
So i cannot, in good conscience, share the article, nor anything more from them. Pity, because they raise many good points about the imbalance of the situation. But to deny any oppressed people their right to resist, whether or not their resistance is effective, is not solidarity, and is condescending.
