NATO Summit: Georgian, Ukrainian Defense Chiefs Discuss War

Meeting between Georgian and Ukrainian ministers of defence

Within the frames of the NATO Summit in Wales, Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Alasania met with his Ukrainian counterpart Colonel-General Valeriy Geletey. One of the key topics of discussion was the armed conflict ongoing in Ukraine. The Georgian side condemned the Russian aggression in East Ukraine and annexation of Crimea.
Minister of Defence of Georgia reaffirmed his firm support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and outlined importance of engagement by the Euro-Atlantic Community in the process of cease fire and providing peace and stability in the region. Irakli Alasania pledged humanitarian support to the Ukrainian side. The need of enhanced defence cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine and the future perspectives were highlighted during the meeting.

Meeting with the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs
Within the framework of the ongoing NATO Summit in Wales, Deputy Minister of Defence of Georgia held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Derek Chollet.
The main topic of discussion was the visit of U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel scheduled in Georgia and its importance for the country. The sides also agreed upon the issues to be discussed during the visit.
The results of the Summit and importance of NATO-Georgia Substantial Package was highlighted during the meeting. Mikheil Darchaishvili also underscored significance of the United States` engagement in the implementation of the package.
The sides touched upon regional security issues, current US-Georgia cooperation in the field of defence and future plans.
