Reeling from its embarrassing accusation that citizens with cameras lead to an increase in homicide rates, the FBI now has a new announcement to make; that anarchists with masks plan to ambush cops on Halloween night.
The group of anarchists even has a name; the National Liberation Militia. And their planned ambush also has a name; the “Halloween Revolt.”
At least according to the New York Post, which broke the story Monday, claiming it received its information from an FBI press release.
However, not only is there no mention of this group on the FBI’s official website or no mention of the news on the FBI’s Facebook page, which they update frequently, there is no evidence anywhere this group even exists.
No Facebook page. No Youtube channel. And no mention in any prior news stories.
For an anarchist group with such a catchy, yet contradictory name, and such an ambitious, yet imminent plan, you would think they would market themselves more effectively.
Nevertheless, countless news sites followed up on the New York Post’s story in an obvious attempt to cater to the Police PR Spin Machine.
It does not appear as if any of these news sites actually contacted the FBI because they all cite the New York Post as the source of the story.
And as we pointed out Monday, the New York Post is not the most credible news site when it comes to police accountability issues.
This is how the New York Post reported the story Monday:
The FBI released an alert Monday warning the NYPD and police departments nationwide of a potentially dangerous anarchist group that says it plans to ambush cops on Halloween.
The extremist group – known as the National Liberation Militia – has proposed a “Halloween Revolt” that encourages supporters to cause a disturbance to attract police and then viciously attack them, the FBI said.
The group has recommended that members wear typical Halloween masks and use weapons such as bricks, bottles and firearms, according to the release.
The NYPD Intelligence Bureau is monitoring the threat, and there is no known link between the threat and New York City law enforcement specifically, the FBI said.
And this is how the rest of the media followed suit.
However, if you do a search for the National Liberation Militia on FBI.gov, you get absolutely nothing.
So either the New York Post is completely making the story up or one of their FBI sources is feeding them a bullshit tip knowing they would never question its authenticity.
Or more like, an NYPD source is feeding the tip to the Post, claiming it came from the feds.
After all, let’s not forget how in the wake of the Freddie Gray death, the Baltimore Police Department announced it had received “credible threats” that gang members were going to “take out” police officers.
That also turned out to be false, which was no surprise to any of us who know that if they had, indeed, received credible threats, they would be issuing arrest warrants instead of press releases.
But during the month of April, countless news sites reported that tale as if it were credible as you can see in the screenshot below.
The bottom line is this, which is obvious to any of us not working for the mainstream media. Anytime there is a surge in police violence as we’ve seen in recent weeks, there will be an attempt at damage control.
That is what we here at PINAC News call the Police PR Spin Machine. And being able to recognize that spin is what separates us from the corporate media.
However, if you plan on dressing up this Halloween, keep in mind that police now have further justification to kill you.
