by KenIt turns out, finally, that I am not so hard of heart as to pass through Nation of Change's frantic spring fund-raising efforts. By and large the long and intense series of e-mails has been more lucidly framed than today's, which has the subject line, "What are you advancing?," which kind of left me wanting to ask, "Um, could you repeat the question?" But the message is succinct:
You rely on NationofChange to do our part every day, 365 days a year.We need you to do your part. We understand that in this economic climate money is tight for everyone. That said, we all put money towards things that are less than essential. Our spring fundraiser is behind. If you believe that this organization is essential and worthy of your support, please donate now. It’s 100% tax-deductible and it will keep us moving fighting for a better world.https://secure.nationofchange.org/
The e-mail also contains a phone number and address for contributions, but you can find that information at the indicated link (I'm not comfortable giving out other people's addresses and phone numbers, even if they're the ones who have put the information out there), and also a Paypal link, and information on how you can get the no doubt excellent DVD Palast Investigates II: Vultures and Vote Rustlers as a gift with a sufficient onetime or recurring contribution. No, I'm not on board with all of NoC's crusades. (I do not believe, for example, that Monsanto is really the Lex Luthor of the extra-comical world. Or that GMOs are the most nefarious thing to happen to the human food supply since the invention of . . . okay, I'm not thinking of a cute foodstuff that fits my agenda as well as theirs, so you can just fill in one of your own.) But they do go through an awful lot of worthwhile sources and repost a lot of important material that I very likely wouldn't see otherwise (I don't have the time to cull all those sources, or even some of them), and wouldn't have an opportunity to pass on, which I've done often enough here.#
