Israeli hold on Golan ‘null and void,’ UN Security Council says

Two articles reporting this news- Both from Israeli media.Link  and LinkI detest the UN. Personally speaking. If the Security Council actually made statements as claimed harkening all the way back to 1981, why has Israel occupied Golan for so long?Isn't it really because the US allows and succors the Israelis? Or perhaps it is that the US is servile to Israel? Whichever the case, I still detest the UN.Here is the news as reported:

The UN Security Council on Tuesday rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertion that the annexed Golan Heights would “forever” remain under Israeli control and expressed concern over his statements. The 15-member council agreed that the status of the Golan, which Israel captured from Syria in 1967, “remains unchanged,” said Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi, who holds this month’s council presidency. Liu recalled a 1981 resolution which states that Israel’s “decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was null and void and without any international legal effect.”

Danny Danon, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, denounced the Security Council for discussing an issue that “completely ignores the reality in the Middle East.”

“It’s unfortunate that interested parties are attempting to use the council for unfair criticism of Israel,” the ambassador added.

Did Danny Danon stamp his feet afterwards?

Council members expressed their deep concern over recent Israeli statements about the Golan, and stressed that the status of the Golan remains unchanged,” China’s U.N. Ambassador Liu Jieyi, president of the 15-nation Security Council this month, told reporters after a closed-door meeting. He added that council resolution 497 of 1981 made clear that Israel’s decision at the time to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the Golan was “null and void and without international legal effect.”Council statements are adopted by consensus, which means all its members, including Israel’s ally the United States, backed it.

Israel’s annexation of the Golan has not won international recognition.

Past U.S.-backed Israeli-Syrian peace efforts were predicated on a return of the Golan, where some 23,000 Israelis now live alongside roughly the same number of Druse Arabs loyal to Damascus.

Liu said the council supported a negotiated arrangement to settle the issue of the Golan.

No negotiated settlement- Golan back to Syria. And NATO out of Syria!!!Though I should add, the so called Syrian Rebels aka Terrorists( special forces, mercenaries, kurds) have stated repeatedly they would negotiate with Israel to gift them Golan. So clearly the agenda necessary to benefit Israel is the balkanization of Syria with a weak central government, not Assad. Of course that just happens to be the plan, with the Kurd terrorists already declaring defacto independence and immediately reaching out to Israel.
