Georgia: U.S.-NATO Military Launching Pad On Russia’s Southern Border

Defense Minister of Georgia Hosted U.S. Delegation

Defense Minister of Georgia Mindia Janelidze hosted Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Dr. Evelyn Farkas and Main Deputy Assistant of U.S. Department of State Tod Chapman at the MoD. U.S. delegation pays visit to Georgia within U.S.-Georgia Bilateral Defense Consultations.
Mindia Janelidze emphasized the importance of U.S. delegation visit to Georgia. The sides discussed the outcomes of bilateral defense consultations and talked about future cooperation directions. Georgia’s security and enhancing defense capabilities, as well as implementation of NATO-Georgia Substantial Package and U.S. contribution in the process of implementation were highlighted at the meeting. Defense Minister expressed gratitude to the U.S. side for supporting joint statement at NATO-Georgia Commission and for U.S. contribution in Georgian company’s training for NATO Response Forces.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense positively evaluated the outcomes of bilateral defense consultations and enhancing cooperation with the USA in defense sphere. Dr. Evelyn Farkas emphasized Georgia’s contribution in global security. She reiterated U.S. steadfast support for Georgia’s NATO membership aspirations.
Deputy Defence Minister Levan Girsiashvili, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland, Defense Attaché COL Mathew Dimmick and other members of the delegation attended the meeting.

Meeting with Future Georgian Students of U.S. Military Educational Institutions
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Dr Evelyn Farkas met with the future Georgian students of U.S. military educational institutions. The meeting was held within the U.S.-Georgia Bilateral Defense Consultations held at the MoD of Georgia.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Dr Evelyn Farkas, Deputy Defense Minister Levan Girsiashvili and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland talked with Aleksandre Tsereteli, Konstantine Kipiani and Radion Tskhakaia and wished the juveniles success.
ODC members selected the youngsters on the base of their data, academic success and interview. The results were sent to U.S. Coast Guard Academy and U.S. Navy Academy. According to the confirmation from the U.S. educational institutions, Aleksandre Tsereteli and Konstantine Kipiani will continue studying at U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Radion Tskhakaia will study at U.S. Navy Academy.

Meeting with James Appathurai

The Secretary of State Security and Crisis Management Council David Sujashvili and First Deputy Defence Minister Gocha Ratiani are on an official visit to Brussels. Gocha Ratiani took part in a meeting with NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.
At the meeting the sides talked about the national security challenges and existing situation in the region. Implementation of NATO-Georgia Substantial Package was one of the main topics of discussion. Special focus was made on establishment of NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center, its importance, mission and capabilities.
Deputy Defence Minister informed the representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance about the implemented and ongoing reforms. He underlined Georgia’s contribution to global security and professionalism of the Georgian military servicemen.
