Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 88

Iraq Under Obama’s Empire

This episode takes a look at the interaction between Iraq and its imperial patron, the United States, from the parliamentary elections in early 2010, through U.S. efforts to form a government, to the increasing authoritarianism of Prime Minister Maliki, his reaction to Iraq’s experience of the Arab Spring, and the US-led effort to pressure the Iraqis to have US forces remain in the country past the planned December 2011 withdrawal. The relationship is complex, hubristic, and imperialistic, and reveals the mere rhetoric of Obama, while retaining the substance of George Bush.
