Syria is complex. It’s an uprising against a tyrant, a civil war between the regime and violent rebel groups, a regional war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, a wider proxy war between the West (especially the US) and Iran (allied with Russia), it’s a counter-revolution to the Arab Spring and the symbol of the challenge of maintaining imperial hegemony in an awakening world.
