On Sunday, a suicide car bomber detonated himself in eastern Damascus, killing 21 people.
The attack was the deadliest attack to hit the Syrian capital since March 15th when a series of suicide attacks occurred killing over 40 civilians and injuring many others in the Justice Building and Al Rabweh district in Damascus.
The attack appears to be part of a wider, multi-pronged attack, as Syrian state media report that security services had intercepted three car bombers on their way into the city that morning.
As yet, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility by any specific terrorist or ‘rebel’ group.
The attack comes at a time when the Syrian Army is making significant advances against ISIS and al Nusra Front throughout the country, including in the eastern Damascus suburbs areas of Jobar and Ain Tarma.
