Why did a scientific organization issue a statement about the Scottish independence vote?
When U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday, he was outspoken in his criticism of Russia for bullying Ukraine, Syria for its brutality towards its own people, and terrorists of all political stripes for the death and destruction plaguing Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Somalia.
But as the New York Times rightly pointed out, Obama made only a “fleeting” reference to Israel and Palestine in his 47-minute speech to the world body.

By John Chuckman | CounterPunch | September 26, 2014 Russia’s President Putin is reported to have said in a conversation a while back that he could be in Kiev in two weeks. In our press, this was reported as yet more evidence of aggressive intentions, but, given even a moment’s thought, that is a patently […]

The late Chalmers Johnson, the great analyst of the American empire, warned that if Americans didn’t give up the empire, they would come to live under it.
We’ve had many reasons to take his warning seriously; indeed, several important thinkers have furnished sound theoretical and empirical evidence for the proposition. Now come two scholars who advance our understanding of how an interventionist foreign policy eventually comes home. If libertarians needed further grounds for acknowledging that a distinctive libertarian foreign policy exists, here it is.
Following our recent interview with Dr. Stanley Monteith, we take a journey back to 1980 to listen to his classic interview with British-born economist and historian Dr. Antony C. Sutton, one-time lecturer at California State University. While a fellow at the Hoover Institution of Standford University from 1968 - 1973, Dr. Sutton researched into the role of certain Western corporations in helping to build the industrial and military capabilites of the Soviet Union, publishing a three-volume academic work entitled Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development.

By Kevin Barrett | Press TV | September 26, 2014 Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s first Chief of Staff – who also served as Obama’s Israeli Mossad handler – famously said: “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could […]
By Jan Oberg | TFF | September 26, 2014 What’s your image of Denmark? Apart from the Little Mermaid, Carlsberg beer and H.C. Andersen perhaps something with decency, welfare, development aid, equality and peace? Unfortunately, that image is outdated. During the last good 15 years Denmark has participated in wars on/in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, it […]
As bombs start dropping in Syria and Iraq, the world is once again being asked to cower in fear of a shadowy terror group that most people hadn’t heard of just a few months ago. But even the most cursory examination of ISIS’s past, its connections, and the actors populating it reveal a very different story than the one we are being asked to believe in. Fake terrorists. Foreign backers. False flags. Meet the new boogeyman, same as the old boogeyman.

I’m not sure McIntyre knows what ‘splicing’ is. To me it means cutting and joining two ends together. All Mann did was plot instrumental temperatures on the same axes, but he showed the whole record.

Al-Akhbar | September 26, 2014 Israel on Friday imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in annexed East Jerusalem for the third consecutive day. A 37 page pdf, that you can read through in under half an hour.Stumbled across this today. Excellent reference.Good for getting a sense of what's at stake in this part of the world. Ya know, why all the interest?Though the East Mediterranean is quite far from the US, the US is going to embed itself in the region for many years to come. Clearly these 'game changer' gas reserves are a big part of the reasoning. It certainly isn't ISIS or humanitarianism or even terrorism.
The reports continue to come in fast and furious from the Jew spew media these last few days about the so called "airstrikes" against "ISIS/ISIL targets" in northern Syria.... I have watched some of the alleged airstrikes and I have been puzzled by several factors... One of course is the lack of so called "ISIS/ISIL" casualties from these "airstrikes" when all we find from real sources is the deaths of innocent civilians... The second is the "airstrikes" themselves that seem to hit empty targets....
emptywheel | September 25, 2014 As we speak, Chuck Schumer is probably yelling into a phone trying to get President Obama to nominate Wall Street’s US Attorney Preet Bharara to succeed Eric Holder as Attorney General. “Barahck,” Schumer is probably yelling, “I can get Mitch to agree to push Preet through in the Lame Duck.” […]
Control of the U.S. Senate will come down to a race none of the powers inside the Beltway are even talking about. Democrat Tim Johnson is retiring from his South Dakota Senate seat and Johnson is strongly backing prairie populist Rick Weiland, who is also being strongly backed by former Democratic Majority Leader Tom Daschle. Harry Reid has a bug up his ass about Daschle and is letting that get in the way of supporting Weiland. Almost every other Democratic senator has endorsed him or contributed to his campaign but Reid refuses to allow the DSCC to back him.

As American hysteria over events in the Middle East rises, news about whatever grim video the Islamic State (IS) has just released jostles for attention with U.S. bombing runs in Iraq, prospective ones in Syria, and endless confusing statements out of Washington about what the next seat-of-the-pants version of its strategy might be. These days, […]

Season 6 launches tonight.by KenI guess they're going to have to get that school up and running, or failing, pretty quick, with Parenthood returning tonight for a mere-13-episode sixth and final season.
