The vote by a majority of the citizens of Great Britain to exit the dysfunctional construct misnamed the European Union is a symptom of something far deeper and more tectonic. If you do what Washington says, they send you money. If you don’t, they send you bombs. Now that Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has claimed he wants to pivot away from the US and toward China, can he expect some of those bombs? Or perhaps just a CIA-sponsored coup? What if this realignment could serve to end the foolish mutual defense treaty the US has had with the Philippines since the 1950s? Wouldn’t it be better if young Americans didn’t face the possibility of being killed while fighting for Philippine fishing rights in the South China Sea?

Friday, I had dinner with former congressional candidate and Air America host Richard Greene, to talk strategy in congressional races beyond just candidates. Richard wants voters to focus on issues that are important to them and then vote for the candidate whose positions coincide with their own. Last week he wrote a guest post here about the concept.Like many progressives, Richard wants to see voters go beyond the personality shit-show between Clinton and Trump and vote rationally down-ballot.

This isn't just getting out of hand - it's out of hand. You did not read this incorrectly, the United Nations have made Wonder Woman an honorary ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. Presumably that's because the UN thinks that actually empowering women and girls is best associated with quasi-feminist fantasies in comic books. Is this just a DC Studios marketing campaign? Anyone with half a brain or an ounce of honesty left, knows that the John Podesta emails released by Wikileaks are authentic. If they weren’t, everyone implicated in them would have immediately and aggressively denied their claims rather than simply change the subject by blurting out some incoherent nonsense about Russia and Vladimir Putin.
If you're a regular reader here, you probably know the editorial position of this blog is that Trump is uniquely unfit to be president and that there are overwhelming and existential dangers this country would face were he to ever get into the White House. At the same time we're not sold on Hillary as anything more than a way to stop Trump and as an inspiring victory that finally cracks the ultimate glass ceiling for women.
