The Fourth Branch
By Kary Love | CounterPunch | August 18, 2017 I am a lawyer. My pro bono clients are often those who offer nonviolent resistance to wrongs committed by our own government. I read that, this week past, some nonviolent resisters entered a nuclear weapons storage facility in Germany. Damn if it is not a list […]

Trump is not the problem
By John Andrews | Dissident Voice | August 18, 2017 Ever since he won the US presidency Donald Trump has attracted an unusually high amount of criticism from the mainstream media. This is extraordinary and quite unprecedented. The US president is normally treated by the press like a messiah, destined to lead mankind into some […]

Why Climate Change Isn’t Our Biggest Environmental Problem, And Why Technology Won’t Save Us
Our core ecological problem is not climate change. It is overshoot, of which global warming is a symptom. Overshoot is a systemic issue. Over the past century-and-a-half, enormous amounts of cheap energy from fossil fuels enabled the rapid growth of resource extraction, manufacturing, and consumption; and these in turn led to population increase, pollution, and loss of natural habitat and[Read More...]

An Open Letter To Jews Worldwide From A Palestinian Arab
Look at me. Look at me as I am — a fellow human being. Look at me independently from your Jewish identity and your Jewish suffering. Are you offended? Does your worldview need wrenching out of a life-long schooling in a painful collective memory? Does it need, as a Jewish friend explained, an “internal revolution” to coax you out into a[Read More...]

The Burka Comes To Parliament: Pauline Hanson’s Panto
In few environments could this work. A member of Parliament (barely breathing, but still a parliament) running within a Muslim minority country (a small minority, at that) with mocking intent, dons a burka, sits in the stands, and receives appropriate mind bending outrage when she strips it off. One thing can be said: Australia’s Pauline Hanson of her self-described One[Read More...]

How the US is Bellyflopping on Iran Nuke-deal
It isn’t really an unexpected thing to see happening. It isn’t coming out of the blue either. Discarding Iran nuke-deal was a central part of Trump’s presidential campaign, and the momentum now being built to undo the deal is only a logical culmination of what he had argued for almost a year ago. The US is now going to review Iran’s performance since the deal’s conclusion, and the reviewer is going to be the US envoy to the UNO, Nikki Haley.

Russia-gate’s Evidentiary Void
By Robert Parry | Consortium News | August 18, 2017 The New York Times’ unrelenting anti-Russia bias would be almost comical if the possible outcome were not a nuclear conflagration and maybe the end of life on planet Earth. Why You Can't Always Trust a 5 Star AirBnB
I began to look more into the AirBnB review process, and I found a number of articles that mentioned the very high reviews of most of their rentals. Why was this the case? Was everyone just too nice to leave a negative review? A little more digging led to interviews with AirBnB hosts who revealed an interesting insight into their guest-selection process.

The Dilemma Of A Muslim In India
The increasing tendency towards seeing people in terms of one dominant ‘identity’ (‘this is your duty as an American’, ‘you must commit these acts as a Muslim’, or ‘as a Chinese you should give priority to this national engagement’) is not only an imposition of an external and arbitrary priority, but also the denial of an important liberty of a[Read More...]

Heartburn Drugs Linked to up to 94% Increased Risk of Ischemic Stroke
Ads for heartburn medication are everywhere, with media being littered with ads for “the big guns” like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, and Protonix. They must be safe, right? Well, it’s still important to know the risks – as one study shows that people who take proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) have a higher risk of stroke.
Lead study author Dr. Thomas Sehested says that, overall, taking PPI’s increase your stroke risk by 21%. [1] -

Have You Heard of the Low-Fat “SlimCado?” Avocado Incoming!
One of the healthiest aspects of an avocado is its fat content. Even though a 1-cup serving of avocado contains 22 grams of fat, eating avocados has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, improve LDL cholesterol, and decrease levels of oxidative stress in the bloodstream. The monounsaturated fat in avocados, especially oleic acid, plays a role in these cardiovascular benefits. [1]

Rising Iran is another waking nightmare for Washington
Much to the horror of Washington elites, Iran have been performing a key role in defeating Western-backed opposition terrorists in Syria, while participating in further victories against ISIS in Iraq. Iran’s growing influence in Iraq, a long-time massive oil producer, must be of particular concern to the United States. This may be a reason behind US President Donald Trump imposing sanctions on Iran last month.
