CONFIRMED: Vasily Nebenzya is Russia’s new Ambassador to the UN

Starting in 2006, Vitaly Churkin was Russia’s Ambassador to the UN, a man whose intelligence, wit and grace under pressure became admired by his colleagues and even his adversaries.
When Churkin died suddenly and mysteriously on the 20th of February, 2017, Russia and indeed the entire United Nations realised that his were almost impossible to fully fill.
Now however, Churkin’s seat at the UN will be taken over full time by Vasily Nebenzya.

The sudden death of Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s Ambassador to the UN since 2006, left many shocked, saddened and puzzled. He appeared to be in good health for his age and displayed the energy of a man half his age.
This led me to question a strange series of deaths of prominent Russian diplomats and advisers who had died in unclear or unnatural circumstances dating back to 2015.

Russia appoints acting permanent representative to UN after Churkin’s death

Ilyichev, who was Vitaly Churkin’s deputy, will now head Russia’s diplomatic mission to the UN until Moscow decides on the new Permanent Representative.
“Pyotr Ilyichev has become the acting Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations,” a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying according to a TASS report.
