US: David Hogg, the leading student activist calling for gun control following the Florida school shooting, was exposed in a leaked video as he is being coached on what to say for a CNN interview. At one point, someone off camera says: "He forgot his lines". Hogg's father, incidentally, is a retired FBI agent. When Donald Trump, Jr. Tweeted that he thought Hogg was a crisis actor, Hogg responded by saying it was too bad there are people like that who have lost their faith in America.
While the outrage and horror being expressed about the most recent mass school shooting that took place on Valentine’s Day in Florida is certainly warranted, the anger is incredibly displaced. Anger, disappointment, fear and sadness are all acceptable and understandable emotions to experience after an event such as this takes place in the United States or elsewhere. But it is the elsewhere that I want to focus on right now.
John Cardillo attended the memorial for the Florida shooting victims and said that a teacher, Sarah Lerner, was text messaging students on their personal cell phones, encouraging them to attend an anti-gun rally. He says that some of the students who he spoke with were upset that the event is being politicized and many students support the Second Amendment. [...]
Republican Colorado State Representative Patrick Neville, who survived the Columbine gun attack in 1999, is introducing legislation to allow teachers to carry guns in order to thwart school shootings. He identifies "gun-free zones" as the common denominator in mass shootings. He has introduced this legislation every year since 2014, and is hoping that this time it will pass. [...]
