Houthi Withdrawal from Hodeida Port Brings No Peace as Saudis Press Attack

SA’DAH, YEMEN — The familiar sound of heavy artillery once again returned to Yemen’s Hodeida province following a period of relative calm in the strategic coastal region. At least 66 artillery shells and a steady stream of heavy machine-gun fire tore through the village of Al-Shijan on Monday, as Saudi-led forces renewed hostilities in the area following a Houthi withdrawal from Hodeida — a move the UN had hoped would bring some semblance of peace to the region.

Saudis Ignore Yemen Truce, Bomb Displaced Persons’ Camp and Food Silos

HAJJAH, YEMEN — At least eight civilians were killed and 30 others wounded on Sunday when Saudi airstrikes bombed a camp for displaced people in Yemen’s northwestern Hajjah province, according to eyewitness statements and medical sources.
Saudi media outlets reported on Sunday that the Saudi-led coalition increased its airstrikes on “Houthi gatherings in the Hajjah governorate.”
Lise Grande, United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, said in the wake of the attack:

New Tragedy in Yemen as Saudi Airstrike Kills Family of Beekeepers on Their Farm

SANAA, YEMEN — A family of beekeepers was killed when the Saudi-led coalition, backed by the United States, targeted their family bee farm with multiple airstrikes on Monday in a residential district of Hodeida.
Local witnesses told MintPress News that airstrikes targeted Ayesh Clip’s bee farm at Deir Essa in the Bajjel district of southern Hodeida, killing Ayesh and four of his family members. The attack also destroyed the farm, which was the family’s sole source of income in a country gripped by famine and a devastating humanitarian crisis.
