As Democrats ponder which militarist they wish to glorify in the next round of monuments, it is critical to realize that statues which go up are at least as important as the ones that come down. Perhaps the best nominee for a new statue is Hatuey.
A few days ago, The Atlantic published an essay by retired general and former CIA director David Petraeus that was a response to a series of Trump tweets from a military perspective. Trump's tweets were more of his racist divisiveness-- this time on the long-overdue renaming of military bases commemorating Civil War traitors.

One of the strange knock-on effects of the recent events in Charlottesville in the American state of Virginia is that the American liberal-left has decided to pause from re-inventing the Cold War with the Soviet Union and has instead resurrected the American Civil War.
