LAPD Cop Acquitted on Felony Charges for Beating Man with Baton

A Los Angeles police officer was found not guilty for repeatedly bashing a man over the head with his baton while trying to arrest him.
Jonathan Lai was acquitted Monday of one felony count of assault by a police officer and another felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“The jurors had to agree that my client was objectively reasonable,” said defense attorney Ira Salzman.

A year before that, he won an award for “integrity in investigative work.”

Former NFL Wide Receiver and Florida Deputy Acquitted in Identity Theft and Tax Fraud Case

A former NFL star, who then became a deputy for Osceola County in Orlando, Florida was acquitted on Saturday by a federal jury on charges of stealing people’s identities and over $500,000 in false income tax returns.
Titus Dixon, 49, who was a wide receiver for both the National Football League and Canadian Football League, was cleared by a jury in Tallahassee over the weekend.
He had been a deputy in Osceola County for nine years and was fired in 2014 when he was indicted.

A Louisiana sheriff’s deputy with serious anger issues was arrested over the weekend on home invasion charges after storming into a home and punching a man in the face.
Surprisingly, Jonathan Lavoi, a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s corrections officer, was placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Lavoi, 38, was taken into custody by fellow deputies Saturday after the sheriff’s office was alerted of a disturbance.

Florida Cops who Stole from Drug Dealers and Falsified Reports Fired from Department

Fort Lauderdale cops Brian Dodge and Billy Koepke got off the hook in October after being acquitted for perjury, but couldn’t avoid the consequences from their department.
According to the Sun Sentinel, both cops lost their jobs on Saturday. Dodge resigned before he was officially booted out, while Dodge and their supervisor –Sgt. Michael Florenco – are appealing their dismissals.

Florida Fire Captain Pleads Guilty to Embezzling Nearly $200,000 from Abandoned Children Non-Profit

 
A disgraced Fire captain in Tampa pleaded guilty to embezzling almost $200,000 from Hope’s Children Home – a charity his father began for abandoned kids.
Alfred Schaffer, 50, pleaded guilty to federal charges and is facing up to 20 years in the slammer.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny, Schaffer was fired from his current position on Monday.
