Greg Walden (R-OR) Bye-Bye

Barton left because of sex molestation charges, Walden just wants to get away from TrumpGreg Walden isn't really a nut; he's a mainstream conservative who has risen high in the ranks of the House GOP. And he announced yesterday that he's retiring from Congress next year.-- the 19th House Republican who is looking forward to not having Trump in their lives. He's Oregon's only Republican federal official.

Makwirituni erakuni: “I’d like to introduce you to my family”

Juan Garcia helps the family’s youngest, Jacob, 9 months, as he fusses during a recent mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Central Oregon, Madras, where the ecosystem looks like parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Chihuahua.
He introduces me and my colleague, Susy S. — both of us from Family Independence Initiative, a national non-profit now working in both Lincoln County and Jefferson County to engage families in a large social capital project – to his family and parishioners.

Guest Post By Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR)-- Dump Trump, Ditch Mitch, Save America!

We first met Jeff when he was still Speaker of the Oregon House, a progressive through and through and a staunch champion for working families. We've supported him in his successful election and reelection efforts for the U.S. Senate and this cycle is no different. Jeff is spending much of his energy on campaigning to win the Senate back from the Republicans and turning McConnell out at the same time Trump is turned out.

Two Types Of People In This World

People think of Oregon as a bright blue state and, for the most part, it is. The last time a Republican presidential candidate won a statewide election there was in 1984, when Reagan beat Walter Mondale 56-44%. Last year all Trump could manage was 39%. (Earlier Bernie beat Hillary in the primaries 56% to 42%.) But of the state's 36 counties, Trump won 28-- and not just backward rural counties with tiny populations.

Symbioses — prolonged associations between organisms often widely separated phylogenetically — are more common in biology than we once thought and have been neglected as a phenomenon worthy of study on its own merits. Extending along a dynamic continuum from antagonistic to cooperative and often involving elements of both antagonism and mutualism, symbioses involve pathogens, commensals, and mutualists interacting in myriad ways over the evolutionary history of the involved ‘partners.’

He’s Not The Worst Democrat-- Guest Post By Albert Lee

He’s not the worst Democrat. Why are you running against Earl? I get that question a lot. Yes, he is not the worst, but why settle for mediocrity? Also, I am not running against Earl, I am running to represent the People of the Third District of Oregon to the United States Congress.Let me break it down for you. First of all, I am running for very selfish reasons.

Congress Needs More Mayors, Fewer Corporate Executives-- Meet Mark Gamba Of Milwaukie, Oregon (Pop- 20,000)

It wasn't hard for Blue America to decide to endorse Mark Gamba for Congress. He's running for an Oregon seat held by one of the most venal Blue Dogs in the House, Kurt Schrader, and Mark's record as mayor of Milwaukie speaks as loudly as his stellar platform. I asked him to introduce himself to DWT readers today.

Republican State Senator Threatens To Shoot Police Officers Over Climate Change, Which He Opposes Oregon Addressing

Oregon mercenary Brian Boquist (R) Threatens To Kill Police OfficersThere was a time when Oregon was a pretty red state. But that was quite some time ago. Today Oregon has 2 Democratic U.S. senators, 4 Democratic congressmembers out of 5, and a state legislature with 38 Democrats and 22 Republicans in the House and 18 Democrats and 12 Republicans in the Senate. The Governor, Treasurer, Attorney General and Commissioner of Labor are also Democrats.

Darkness, Darkness-- The Mercers Are Disappointed In Trump

There are plenty of evil families in the Trump orbit. But-- no offense meant to the DeVos/Prince monsters-- none come close to the Long Island billionaire Mercer clan. At least as much as Putin and Hillary, they delivered a victory to Trump in 2016. They gave him Bannon, Kellyanne, Bossie, Cambridge Analytica... a whole campaign. And then once he won, Rebekah, the imperious, ultra-spoiled daughter, called the shots.
