Trampling on a Symbol of Liberty

Trampling on a Symbol of Liberty by James Bovard Last August, 12-year-old Jaiden Rodriguez was kicked out of a public-school classroom in Colorado Springs after school officials decreed that the Gadsden flag patch on his backpack was “disruptive to the classroom environment.” Those Colorado officials didn’t know the meaning of “disruptive.” Thanks to savvy, thoughtful […]

First Chapter of Last Rights: The Death of American Liberty

James Bovard, Last Rights: The Death of American Liberty https://www.amazon.com/Lst-Rights-Death-American-Liberty/dp/B0CP9VCNDH/   CHAPTER ONE: TYRANNY COMES TO MAIN STREET Americans today have the “freedom” to be fleeced, groped, wiretapped, injected, censored, injected, ticketed, disarmed, beaten, vilified, detained, and maybe shot by government agents. Politicians are hell-bent on protecting citizens against everything except Uncle Sam. Is America […]

Time for a New Revolution

As the presidential election draws near both contestants make fatuous appeals to America’s near-sainted Founding Fathers and that almost sacred scroll known as the Constitution. History has seen more than its share of distortion. Myths and misconceptions have sprung up that many people now take as fact. However, historical interpretation must be based on evidence, which in many cases is either lacking or contradictory. Myths are powerful because they say things people want to believe. History does matter, which is why people in power put so much energy into controlling it.

Who's To Blame When Parties Get Out Of Hand? Is Republican Virtue Dead And Buried?

"Who's to blame when situations degenerate?" That what's the B-52s wanted to know in 1979, sometime between the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and the Trump "acquittal" yesterday. Adam White, a resident scholar at the right-wing American Enterprise Institute and member of the Federalist Society, teaches at George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School.

Trump's Proposal Was Radical-- AOC And Elizabeth Warren Are Reformers

Eric Levitz at New York Magazine. Once a poetry lecturer at Johns Hopkins, this guy has been writing excellent essays on the nexus of where politics meets the world of finance.

No, The Founding Fathers Weren't "Ordinary Men," Not In The Way Scott Walker Means It

Trump's knowledge of American history is as thorough as his knowledge of everything other than grifting. That's why so many morons love him so much; they see themselves in him. I guess there's nothing we can do about that. Even when Max Boot speculated in his Post column yesterday that "If Trump announced he were going to spit-roast immigrant kids and eat them on national TV (apologies to Jonathan Swift), most Republicans probably would approve of that too," he was right on target.
