(Opinion) — Thousands lined up to purchase recreational marijuana legally at 12:01 a.m. on July 1. At Euphoria Wellness, with a location in southwest Las Vegas, a crowd of 400 to 500 people were lined up at midnight. Other locations had just as many.

Florida Governor Rick Scott signed a bill into law on June 24, 2017 officially making medical marijuana legal for patients with certain debilitating diseases. [1]
Ben Pollara, the executive director of Florida for Care, said:

“This is a good day for sick and suffering Floridians. The signing of this law provides a framework for the future of our state’s medical marijuana system and while it is far from perfect, it will begin providing access to patients.”

Just days after Denver voters narrowly approved Initiative 300, which was intended to allow pot use in city bars and restaurants, a new rule was published November 18 by the Liquor Enforcement Division of the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) slamming the door on the plan. [1]

The rule prohibits marijuana consumption at any business that holds a liquor license starting January 1, 2017.

It’s a great time in Pennsylvania! The state House voted 149-43 to legalize medical marijuana, but it gets even better. If the bill is signed into law, cannabis would be a legal treatment option for autism, making Pennsylvania the first state to specifically include the condition.

A city in Northern Michigan recently passed an ordinance allowing medical marijuana dispensaries to sell without cause for concern, but a series of massive raids conducted by U.S. Homeland Security, the Michigan State Police, and a number of sheriff’s offices has resulted in millions of dollars of product, cash, and even automobiles being seized.

Even after medical marijuana use is made legal on a state level through legislations, those who would provide it to the public often have to go through multiple levels of red tape to open their doors. After months of navigating through bureaucratic roadblocks and community anxieties, two Long Island medical marijuana dispensaries have opened to the public on Friday. [1]
