Kansas Prison Medical Staff Sued After Ignoring Pleas for Help from Inmate who Died of Brain-Eating Fungus

A lawsuit was filed Monday against three doctors and 11 nurses who work at a prison in Kansas as well as the company contracted to provide medical services for inmates throughout the state’s prison system after medical staff ignored an inmate who told them, “it feels like something is eating my brain.”

Michigan Jailer Fired for Ignoring Suicidal Inmate’s Pleas for Help as She Hung Herself Reinstated with Back Pay

Before she strapped a bra around her neck and tried to hang herself from a prison shower head in Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Michigan, Janika Edmond asked prison guards for a suicide prevention vest.
But state corrections officers Kory Moore and Dianna Callahan blew her off, mocking her instead, talking amongst themselves about a bet they had placed on whether or not the inmate would ask for the vest.
Callahan had won the bet, so she started taunting Moore about how she now owed her a Subway sandwich.

Milwaukee Jailers Mock and Ignore Pregnant Inmate Going into Labor, Resulting in Baby’s Death, Lawsuit Claims

A mentally ill inmate whose baby died after jailers laughed at her and ignored her requests for medical attention when her water broke is suing the Milwaukee County Jail where three other people have died since April.
Shade Swayzer is suing for $8.5 million, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The parents of an insulin-dependent 20-year-old diabetic woman who died in an Texas jail cell after a licensed nurse ignored her pleas and refused to help released a surveillance video of her death Thursday in hopes it will bring about changes in the “prison for profit” industry.
“We want to see things change in jails everywhere. Morgan had a family that loved her,” Jennifer Houser, the mother of Moran Angerbaur said.
“This has to change. Nobody deserves to die like that.”

Award-Winning New York Sheriff Refuses to Provide Details on Two Recent Inmate Deaths While Being Sued for Third Death

Nobody at the Broome County Jail in New York is saying much about the two inmates who have died in less than a month.
In fact, the local district attorney’s office said it was not even aware of the latest death this week until contacted by the media.
And even then, Broome County District Attorney’s Chief Investigator Jason T. Ellis didn’t seem to really care.

A disturbing and infuriating video has surfaced showing a group of Texas jail guards piling on top of an inmate who repeatedly tells them he can’t breathe, only for him to be found dead in his cell the following morning.
Nineteen times in nine minutes is how many times Michael Sabbie told the guards, “I can’t breathe,” only for them to pepper spray him and tell him to stop resisting when the video shows him not to be resisting.

Los Angeles police officers killed an unarmed man inside a city jail in 2012, claiming he was “violent and combative,” which required several cops to pounce on him, including one who placed him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing.
The incident led to the city of Los Angeles paying a $2.85 million settlement to the family of Rachel Howard in 2015, the 56-year-old man who had been arrested for driving while intoxicated before he was killed.

No Justice for Freddie Gray: Baltimore Cops Face No Further Charges for In Custody Death

“Is the system saying that Freddie Gray killed himself?” asked Kevin Moore, who recorded Freddie Gray’s last moments alive as you can see in the video below, “Because nobody’s being held responsible.”
Baltimore prosecutors dropped all charges today.
Last April, a young man entered the back of a western Baltimore Police paddywagon on his own two feet, complaining but otherwise healthy.
He emerged in a coma.

Texas Cop Accuses DA of Coverup in Sandra Bland Case

A Texas cop has stepped forward about the Sandra Bland investigation and lobbed serious accusations  at the Waller County District Attorney’s office for excluding his testimony from the grand jury hearing in the criminal case against Texas DPS Officer Brian Encinia, who beat up Sandra Bland, ultimately leading to her untimely death in jail three days later.
