Whatever happens with Donald Trump’s candidacy- whether he rides his durable poll numbers to the Republican nomination, runs as an independent, or withdraws from the race completely- the ideas he’s introduced to the mainstream political dialogue will have a long shelf life.

Few of the growing number of Republicans opposing Trumpf say their opposition is rooted in what's good for the country. It's about what's good for the fucked-up political party they share with him-- albeit uneasily-- that spawned him in the first place. I don't recall ever seeing so many elected officials from a party saying they will not support a candidate if he's their party's official nominee.

Friday, Carly Fiorina was happy to not have to fight with PolitiFact about another of her "Pants-on-Fire" Lies. Instead, she went to the safety of her Facebook page to attack Donald Trump and defend the honor of the falling apart Dr. Ben campaign.

Yesterday we looked at how the Republican presidential contenders dealt with the issue of immigration in their latest debate. The other two big take-aways from the debate were in regard to the minimum wage and to health care/insurance.

Ben Carson is the quiet, almost somnolent, version of Donald Trump. He is, like Trump, a political outsider, but a crafty politician all the same, without the reality TV persona of Donald Trump. Carson seems to share other attributes with “the Donald” though not commonly discussed in the media.

Forget the GOP debate, these 5 things are much more deserving of your time.
