INTERNATIONALISM vs GLOBALISATION, at the Royal Festival Hall, London, in association with the adjacent Andreas Gursky exhibition at the Hayward Gallery – this Monday 9th APR 2018, 19.30

Join economist and Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) co-founder Yanis Varoufakis for a keynote talk on the economic force that has shaped our world: globalisation.

This South Bank talk is punctuated by images from acclaimed German photographer, Andreas Gursky, whose iconic photographs have documented global capital and its effects for three decades, and whose first major UK retrospective will open the Hayward Gallery.

Capitalism has long been shaping our world in its image. More recently, it gave us a new variant of globalisation that simultaneously lifted millions of people out of poverty ‘but also generated new types of dispossession and depravity’.

After decades of globalisation that led to its crisis and to the ‘rise of a new militant parochialism’, we are at a point of ever-increasing tumult where we must, as Varoufakis writes, ‘come to terms with this beast that has dominated our lives’.

Can internationalism be the antidote to globalisation?

After the event, Yanis Varoufakis is signing copies of his new book Talking to My Daughter About the Economy: A Brief History of Capitalism.
