US Lauds Barzani Step Down. Did the US encourage Barzani’s Fall From Power ?

I do wonder about the role of the US considering the stand down of the PUK militia aka peshmerga? Also when thinking about the presence of US troops at Kirkuk? Link

The US State Department in a statement on Monday commended the decision made by the Kurdistan Region President to not extend his term and promised to support the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) new leadership.“The US commends the decision of Masoud Barzani not to seek an additional term as President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and the vote of the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament to distribute presidential authorities to other KRG institutions,” the statement said.

I'm not really into the whole 'betrayal' meme (as presented) the one that's always pushed with the Kurds- The US as betrayer. It's just not that simplistic when one considers the decades old relationship the US intelligence community has with the Kurds.Link

"The US has for long worked with the Kurds as its most trusted allies in the region.”

That is certainly true! Relinking a pdf that has been posted here before:CIA Declassified Document from 1948:

“ The kurds are worthy of scrutiny chiefly because of the potential threat they present  to the internal stability of Iran, Iraq and to a lesser extent Syria...”

“In Turkey - 7-8 percent of the population- form the largest minority group”

Demonstrating a long ago identification with and entirely probable relationship to the varied Kurdish factions for the very reason that they threaten the internal stability of Iran, Iraq, to a lesser extent Syria and most definitely Turkey! No one could possibly believe the CIA would pass up such an opportunity? What is very clear is that, as usual, some kurds betrayed other kurds. If the US was behind this plan, it was still the PUK/Talabani peshmerga that "betrayed" the KRG supportive kurds and peshmerga.Link

“Barzani said followers of his long term rival, PUK founder Jalal Talabani who died in early October, had been guilty of “high treason” for handing over the oil city of Kirkuk to Iraqi forces without a fight two weeks ago”

Barzani's been talking about PUK betrayal since the whole Kirkuk incident.Thinking beyond the usual kurdish backstabbing to the bigger picture.. Perhaps it’s just more of that order out of chaos? In case you've been snoozin'
