In the fifty-third edition of the Russian Newspapers Monitor, Professor Filip Kovacevic discusses the articles from four Russian newspapers: Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Izvestia, Moskovskiy Komsomolets, and Komsomolskaya Pravda. He analyzes a speech made by the Russian president Vladimir Putin at the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi. In addition, he discusses the Russian space program and the likelihood that the Russian government will finance an expedition to the Moon. Lastly, Professor Kovacevic examines the candidates for the March 2018 Russian presidential elections and the rationale behind the exponentially increasing Russian financial aid to other countries.
